Nina Simone famously sang “I Got Life” when she combined two songs from the musical Hair. This week alongside a passage on Jubillee, we will consider gratitude and freedom as a part of recognizing Black History Month. While we sometimes sing the lyrics “Jubillee! Let the slaves and the captives go free,” what would a celebration like that look like today? What might we remember and learn from those who have been freed? What does freedom look like?
