The name Lent related to the French word lente, which means “to move slowly.” It also comes from Middle English lente and Old English lencten or lengten, referring to the season of spring and the lengthening of days.
This year, the Season of Lent Worship Series will invite UCoL congregants to engage in Lenten practices to slow down, take time to commune with God and their own spirits, and to deepen their Yes to Spirit, and Yes to what God is calling us into in ministry at UCoL.
We know that growing in the Way of Jesus takes intentionality. It’s not a spectator sport. We have to fully engage. So, over the coming weeks of Lent, we will inspire each other; we will invite each other deeper into faith; and we will give thanks for all God is doing in us and through us, as each week we explore a different Lenten practice.
The 2025 UCoL Lenten practices that we help us in discerning the ministry we are called to be and do during this time of transition. Each week, not only will we learn about a specific Lenten practice, but you will be given ideas about different ways that you can actually do it. Try it; play with it; see how it opens you up to God. By taking this opportunity and trying each practice, you will be making space in your life to actively live out the Way of Jesus. Let us cherish this Lenten journey together!
