This week we welcome Salome into our midst and minds as we consider her motivation. This well-intentioned mother of James and John hoped to secure her children's future as Jesus' right and left-hand men. Rebuked by Jesus, Salome's inquiry opened space and dialogue for the disciples to learn that those who serve will be the most highly regarded amongst Christ's followers.
Those in the lowest positions are consistently upheld as leaders in scripture, against all odds. We will relate this to today's church experience and our place in community and with Christ.
