The Orange Shirt Day / National Day for Truth and Reconciliation was marked in Langley last Saturday, with a beautiful event at the Derek Doubleday Arboretum, organized by Rev. Sophia Ducey, UCoL Shift members, Encompass, Lower Fraser Valley Aboriginal Society and Reconciliation Langley. Many UCoL congregants, local politicians and community members attended and took part in the reflections and activities and the candlelight vigil walk at the end.
The story about this event was featured on the front page of the Langley Times Advance of October 5 and its online edition.
A big thanks to Encompass Support Services Society, Lower Fraser Valley Aboriginal Society, and the local indigenous drumming community coordinated by Sheila Jack and Tara Helps, for an amazing successful community event. And we offer our words of appreciation to the Township of Langley Mayor Eric Woodward, council members from the Township and City of Langley and MPs for supporting this important community gathering on National Day for Truth & Reconciliation / Orange Shirt Day.
If you would like to stay engaged with reconciliation activities in Langley, send a message to Sophia and she will add add you to our list for upcoming events.
