Gather with friends and community at 4pm for a brief time of community connection.

The Alternative Worship Experience (AWE) will run from 4:30-5:30pm, followed by some time for those who want to linger a bit in conversation with the musicians.

As always, this will be an interactive community experience of music, poetry, prayer and conversation, all weaved together as a beautiful tapestry of community.

Featured Musicians: Max Holmes - piano, Alison Lee - bass, Milan Stanga- drums

Maxwell Holmes is an emerging Canadian jazz pianist and composer. He received classical training starting at the age of five and studied within the Canadian Royal Conservatory of Music’s classical piano program for ten years. He has been playing and performing as a jazz pianist since the age of nine, studying with the likes of legends like Brad Turner, Lorraine Desmarais, and George Cables. His style has it’s firm roots in the tradition of great pianists such as Oscar Peterson, Cedar Walton, and Herbie Hancock. Holmes has worked in ensembles led by Fred Stride and Daniel Hersog and is the current pianist for the Jazz of the 49th Parallel Orchestra. He has performed twice at the Fort Langley International Jazz and Arts Festival, the first time solo in 2019 and the second time with the Imus & Geddes Quintet in 2021. Holmes was selected three years in a row as the pianist for the Conn-Selmer Centerstage Jazz Band, an elite nation-wide youth jazz ensemble. He has been the recipient of the 2022 Lou Williamson Rhythm Section Player Award and the prestigious 2024 Fraser MacPherson Jazz Scholarship. He is currently a senior majoring in music at Langley Fine Arts School and plans to attend The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York City with a full scholarship next fall.
