Join us for a time of AWE (Alternative Worship Experience) when we will intertwine amazing jazz music selections with short readings, reflection and conversation celebrating Jazz and its influence on culture, community and church.  Jazz is a perfect framework for exploring the ebb and flow of community life and how to offer relevant theology in an ever-changing world!

Please pre-register for this event at Eventbrite. Once the Chapel seats are full, there will be café-style seating in the church hall, offering a more relaxed viewing of the Jazz AWE streamed from the Chapel, with refreshments available during the AWE and during the community time with the musicians and attendees after the event. No reservations are needed for café-style seats, available while there's room on a first-come, first-served basis.

This event is the Grand Finale Worship Celebration of the Fort Langley Jazz & Arts Festival!

About the feature musicians:

Candus Churchill
Born in Louisville, Kentucky, Candus found her love of music early in life as her entire family played instruments or sang. After touring the US and Japan with the group Dragon Fly, Candus settled in Vancouver, BC in 1980 and then branched out into acting in theatre, television, and film, amassing an impressive number of credits as per her IMDB page.
In 1991 Candus was instrumental in creating Vancouver’s first Contemporary Black Gospel Group, Circle Of Voices, which later became The Gospel Experience. Under Candus’ dedication and administration, they became a seminal force in the Vancouver gospel music scene for over two decades.
Candus is honoured to be a 2020-21 inductee into The BC Entertainment Hall Of Fame Star Meritus.
Leora Cashe
Leora's rich resounding voice and dynamic stage presence have garnered numerous accolades. She reaches into the listener's core with an exquisite range of emotional power and ignites a soulful perspective; weaving together jazz, blues and gospel. In addition to her celebrated live performances in Vancouver, Italy, Belgium and the UK, Leora has released four CDs of jazz and gospel music to critical acclaim.
Jaye Krebs
Jaye has been a professional musician for over 40 years and majored in jazz piano and percussion studies at MacEwan University in Edmonton. As musical director, Jaye has toured with the Arts Club Theatre across Canada and performed in numerous theatre productions in the Lower Mainland. As a pianist and vibraphonist, he has appeared on stage at countless music festivals across Canada, Italy and the UK.
Will Sanders
All through his childhood in Alexandria, Louisiana, Will sang in church choirs and ensembles and he even played in the school band. But his heart was always drawn to singing Gospel. In his first time out in the musical theatre arena in 1994, he won a starring role in the Arts Club production of Ann Mortifee's tour de force, 'When the Rains Come', for which he was nominated for a Jessie Richardson Award for Best Performance in a Musical. He went on to star in the Arts Club production of 'Five Guys Name Moe'. Over the years, Will has sung with a number of Vancouver-based Gospel ensembles including 'Circle Of Voices',' Cloud Nine', 'The Gospel Experience' and the award-winning gospel trio 'The Sojourners.'
